The Baking Group

The Bake House Working Group has been in existence since 1984 and was founded with the aim of allowing museum visitors to view close up a stone oven such as would have been found in many villages. Since then the two Baking Days each year have become a fixed point in the calendar (1 May and 3rd Sunday in August) and are well attended by both locals and visitors from all over the area.

On the two Baking Days a group of around 14 members , three of which are trained bakers, one an experienced oven fire maker, as well as gentlemen who help with the heavier work and ladies who carry our the finer tasks in the baking process, provides the numerous visitors with local butter cake, wholemeal bread and sweet loaves.

The Bakers are always on the look out for new helpers to join in the fun of traditional baking.
